Dr. Taylor is a board certified, Center of Excellence Certified Bariatric Surgeon with twenty years of surgical experience. Although Dr. Taylor has an array of general, trauma, and advanced laparoscopic surgical experience, he is a dedicated bariatric surgeon currently devoting 100% of his practice to bariatric surgery and the care of bariatric patients. He has performed over 4,000 bariatric procedures in his career.
Dr. Taylor is a native of Washington D.C. He attended the University of Maryland for his undergraduate studies earning a Bachelor of Science degree in Biological Sciences in 1995. Dr. Taylor matriculated into the University of Maryland School of Medicine and received his medical degree in 1999. Thereafter, he moved to Michigan for his 5 year general surgical residency at Wayne State University and the Detroit Medical Center serving as Chief Resident between 2003-2004.
Dr. Taylor became interested in bariatric surgery while a Chief Resident, after witnessing the significant, positive impact that bariatric surgery had on the lives of patients. After residency he joined the Center for Obesity Related Illnesses, a busy bariatric surgery practice and for several years gained significant experience in both open and advanced laparoscopic bariatric surgery.
Dr. Taylor now serves as the Medical Director of the Taylor Bariatric Institute®, a comprehensive bariatric surgery health care center. Taylor Bariatric Institute works in partnership with Barix Clinics; a large bariatric specialty hospital that is recognized as a Bariatric Center of Excellence that has performed over 40,000 bariatric procedures since the mid 1990’s.
Dr. Taylor is diplomat of the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons (FASMBS). He is also a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is an active member of a wide variety of medical professional organizations, including the Michigan Bariatric Society, American Medical Association, Michigan State Medical Society, Wayne County Medical Society and the Detroit Surgical Society. Committed to giving back, Dr. Jamokay Taylor also tutors elementary and junior-high students in and around Detroit.
